Donington Park brought a slight variation of track than I was used to but I took well to it in testing being not far off the pace by the end of the day and looking forward to qualifying I thought we had really found a sweet spot with the car and how I liked to drive it.
Saturday was a dry but cold and quiet day and that was when qualifying was brought to be the highlight of the weekend as I had hooked a perfect lap together which put me 3rd on the grid for the race. I was the first Golf positioned on the grid and was extremely happy as this was exactly where I had hoped to be going into the session and thought I could have been pushing on for another podium on the Sunday.
Unfortunately Sunday did not go at all to plan and although the weather had turned to rain I felt hopeful that I could be on the pace as I had good pace in the wet earlier in the year. This changed shortly into the race where the car started to handle extremely badly and I dropped to 7th which I then had a small gravel excursion from dropping me down to 17th but the worst was yet to come. I was excluded at the end of the race for a technical infringement as my wheel rims over hung the wheel arches. I lost all championship points which I also opted to played my joker on after my brilliant qualifying, but this also meant I started last (24th) for race 2. I carved my way through past 12 cars at the start of the second race but the car handling started to deteriorate and I finished in 14th place. This wasn’t the championship boosting weekend I had hoped for and this had dropped me to 7th place in the championship where 5th was still possible but very optimistic.
Silverstone is on the 9th October and this is where the final round of the championship will be held and I will be doing my best to gain huge points to bring me back into contention for a higher place in the championship.
